MAPPING PROUST (LA RECHERCHE): In the first step, the complete text of Marcel Proust's "In Search of Lost Time" was recorded on 125 audio cassettes. The readers were friends, relatives, Proust fans and myself. The recordings were read in privately at home by everyone. In addition to the actual text, background noises from the respective rooms can be heard on the audio recordings: Wall clocks, birdsong, voices from the neighbouring rooms, the clatter of tea cups and water glasses, streetnoise, church bells. The readout time of the complete text is 125 hours. In the second step I drew synchronously while listening to the sound recordings in chronological order. The drawing has been executed on a 10-meter-long roll of paper that was processed from left to right. There was no predetermined composition of the image, the process was intuitive, coupled to the content of the text read aloud. The drawing was complete when the last word was spoken or heard.
