IMMER WIEDER IMMER WEITER GANZ NACH VORN
(U N D N I EM A L S VE R G E S S E N) – Typographic Ground Work
First prize in the Art in Architecture competition for the Oberspree training centre of the soccer club 1. FC Union Berlin e.V // Realisation: November 2024 – April 2025
Idea: Text fragments from the club anthem of 1. FC Union will be set into the paved areas of the training centre in loose succession. The words IMMER WIEDER IMMER WEITER GANZ NACH VORN („ALWAYS ONWARD, ALWAYS FORWARD, RIGHT TO THE TOP“) are extracted from the anthem and made from stainless steel letters and put together in words in the paving. The letters of each word alternate between right and left. The repeating words appear in different places on the paving of the access road to the site, the pedestrian path and the ground area at the back between the grandstand and the football pitches. The 16 cm high stainless steel letters are placed in the centre of 20 x 20 cm concrete blocks. The letters are produced in the club's own typeface, ‘Khand’.
The lyrics of the anthem and its singing in the stadium of 1. FC Union are particularly identity-forming and rousing. Singing together motivates the players, carries them onto the pitch before the game and fires them on during a game. A good anthem creates an enthusiastic unity between fans and players. True Union fans can of course sing their club anthem by heart and in their sleep. Even if only part of the anthem is seen (or heard), Union fans and the players will automatically fill in the missing words. Detached from the original text, the repeating words ‘IMMER WIEDER, IMMER WEITER, GANZ NACH VORN’ (ALWAYS AGAIN, ALWAYS FURTHER, RIGHT TO THE TOP) spread across the terrain depict the basic principle of learning, playing, sports and training: To keep getting better and to make it to the top, you have to keep repeating, varying and developing thoughts, ideas, exercises and movements. Constantly adding missing information and playfully repeating what has already been learned consolidates knowledge and enhances experience. OVER AND OVER AGAIN, EVER FURTHER, RIGHT TO THE TOP (AND NEVER FORGET) is intended to literally accompany the athletes on their journey and support them throughout their athletic training.

Lines, Lost & Found is a drawing exhibition featuring Berlin artists who have been part of the magazine's 25-year history. Through their diverse concepts and techniques, they contribute to the ongoing conversation about the role and evolution of drawing in contemporary art. The title reflects the dynamic and unpredictable nature of drawing, where experimentation and discovery are closely linked.
FUKT Magazine is an annual publication dedicated to contemporary drawing. Each issue focuses on a specific theme and includes interviews, essays, and drawings from artists around the world. The magazine was founded in 1999 by artist Bjørn Hegardt and has been co-edited with Creative Director Ariane Spanier since 2006.

15 years of oqbo also means 15 years of paperfile. In the anniversary year, there will be another round in our space in Brunnenstraße. In 2023, paperfile will enter its 19th round. paperfile #19 complements the gallery's drawing archive with works on paper by 9 artists. Another carefully selected mix of drawings, watercolours, digital prints, collages, cynotypes and many other forms of expression on paper. oqbo began building a rapidly growing collection of works on paper with paperfile right from the very first exhibition. To date, it has grown to over 200 portfolios with works on paper by international and national artists. paperfile stands for a fundamental orientation of the work with the project space: to promote communication among visitors, to bring together those unfamiliar with art and those with an affinity for art and to seek and enable dialogue between art and art viewers. Through this carefully selected mixture of works on paper, different conceptions of art and art genres are aesthetically and discursively juxtaposed and brought into new contexts.

When Words Fail brings together a group of artists whose works explore what happens when the ordinary functioning of language starts to break down. Through a range of strategies – blacking-out words and effacing meanings in newspaper articles, composing strange and nonsensical songs about wooden trees, using facial gestures to enact specific emotions according to instructions in a Brazilian television actor’s manual, relaying suggestively indeterminate messages about intercultural relationships through public signage, improvising a five-hour sequence of scenes based on every word in the dictionary beginning with E, and getting an avatar to expound (via sign language) on the story of a gorilla that used sign language to persuade world leaders to act on climate change – all of the works in the exhibition highlight the less-than-straightforward relationship between language and meaning, and between words and the things they stand in for.

How are our judgements about art affected by our knowledge of the artist’s name and background? How is the value of a drawing determined? Where is the border between art and non-art? ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS HAMBURG–Veddel at Kunstraum HYCP Veddel-Space features 180 drawings by 180 artists from the Metropolregion Hamburg, presented with no mention of authorship or title and offered for sale at a symbolic price of 250€. The identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is sold: Sold drawings will be taken right off the wall at the closing event on January 14. The empty space left behind will be marked with the artist‘s full name and place of origin. The given unit sales price should not be seen as a real market price, but as a conceptual place holder for any conceivable amount of money in the art market. The exhibition was preceded by an open call for submissions, eligible for all people from Metropolregion Hamburg. There were no guidelines specifying content; the only requirement was that the drawings are no bigger than A3. Age, biography or gender will not be requested to be disclosed and do not play any role in the final selection of works. The selection was made on the basis of anonymized image files. ANONYMOUS DRAWINGS is conceptual art and exhibition project all in one: Each and every artist becomes part of a collective work of art where hierarchies are entirely absent. Anonymous Drawings was founded in 2006 by the Berlin artist Anke Becker. Since the founding year, the project has been a guest in numerous exhibition spaces in and outside Germany. www.anonyme-zeichner.de
During the opening drawings will be available for purchase at the gallery. (Cash- and card payment) Online sale from December 10 at www.anonyme-zeichner.de

Beyond Drawing / Contemporary drawing in Berlin
ZAK / Zentrum für Aktuelle Kunst, Gallery Upper floor

The exhibition “Über die Zeichnung hinaus” shows the abundance of current drawing positions in Berlin: exuberant pictorial narrative and strict reduction, figuration and abstraction, documentation and site inspection, illusion and its suspension, the microscopic and the generous, drawing as performance, in books, in space or in animation film. Whether on paper or in combination with other media, drawing goes beyond itself and crosses borders.
The Berlin drawing scene also includes project spaces, magazines, networks and websites that deal with drawing and its expansion. Exemplarily, some of these projects present themselves in the exhibition. Curated by Katja Pudor and Matthias Beckmann

From the explanatory report: THE ALPHABET & THE PRINCIPLE OF (DIS)ORDER
Jeanne's alphabet is a 10.4 x 8.5 metre letter structure made of lightweight concrete that floats in front of the wall. When viewed for a longer time, it holds surprises and can cause subtle irritations: A P is hidden in the B, a C in the G, an L in the E. VWXY combine in a peculiar way to form a grid. The neighbourhood of I and J creates a large D. ÄÖÜ moved together and mirrored are hardly recognisable as letters. (...)
